This full day course starts by using a variety of natural homegrown plant materials to learn the art of cordage making. 2-ply string/cordage is an ancient practice that has many uses today. It can form mats, baskets or other crafted items or simply useful in the garden.
Once this first technique has been mastered, we will begin to use the cordage to create. You will learn another very early known technique called looping. Starting with a small project to build confidence, we will create a keyring fob together, then depending on how you feel, you have the option to continue exploring this technique by creating either a small cupped bowl or a coaster, or both if time allows.
You will leave with the confidence to create your own cordage, knowing a variety of plant materials to use, and how to start your own handwoven items using the looping technique. This course will open your eyes to what's possible to create, using the natural resources around you.
The course will take place inside a large beautifully converted barn space at Manor House Farm in the tranquil setting of Sheldon, near Bakewell, in the Peak District. Teas, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please bring your own lunch. All necessary tools will be provided.
This course is suitable for complete beginners or those with some basketry weaving experience.
